St Benet’s: Liturgy

Liturgy Support

Many parishioners participate in a wide range of activities which contribute to the Celebration of the Liturgy. Sunday Mass is at the heart of parish life and it is here that the contributions made through the various ministries are most visible.

The Choir leads the singing the liturgy at 11am Sunday Mass, and supports the devotions with a selection of well-known and loved hymns.

The preparation, regular attendance and attention on the altar of the Sacristan and Altar Servers support the dignity of the services.

The Readers of the Liturgy of the Word help us to focus on the passages of scripture appointed for that day.

The Extraordinary Ministers of Communion (‘Eucharistic Ministers’), reverently assist in the distribution of Holy Communion at Mass – and some can help the clergy in taking the Eucharist to any housebound parishioners.  The Visitors Group also help to maintain contact with those unable to attend Mass.

The Ushers – performing the Ministry of Welcome – are the ‘Meeters and Greeters’.  As they are often the first point of contact for visitors or newcomers, it is an important service.

After Mass, the Tea and Coffee Teams provide an opportunity to build the parish community.  Friendships are established and newcomers and visitors to St Benet’s are made to feel welcome. Donations for refreshments go to a chosen charity. Those who are on the rota for each week choose the charity:
1st Sunday – Waveney Food Bank
2nd Sunday – CAFOD
3rd Sunday – Replacing the chairs in the church hall
4th Sunday – Replacing the chairs in the church hall
5th Sunday – Replacing the chairs in the church hall

During refreshments after Mass, the Repository is open. We stock a range of Bibles, missals and religious books; crucifixes, rosaries, medals and icons; greetings cards for all occasions; In Memoriam and Mass Cards. We also have catalogues from our suppliers, and will order any item. Come along and browse after Mass. All profits go to help the upkeep of St Benet’s.

The members of the Parish Pastoral Council coordinate these activities and welcome ideas and suggestions from all parishioners.
